It has been said that "Miniature horses are like potato chips." You can never stop with just one!
The popularity of miniature horses and horses has increased considerably in recent years, especially with older people who have previously owned full-sized horses. That is to say, many of us senior citizens have downsized our homes, vehicles, and even our animal companions.
The reasons are many. Tractability is probably the major advantage of these small, “exotic” equines that range in size from approximately 28 to 34 in. at the shoulder.
The smaller space and feed requirements are also very appealing characteristics, although their perpetual cuteness is undoubtedly their most endearing trait. This I learned from an excellent and informative website:

Jimmy and Charlie are miniature horses. Dear friends intended to give me a young miniature horse as a gift, but I was to choose which one of two I wanted.
Because it was unconditional love at first sight for both, I knew this was an impossible choice. The solution to the dilemma seemed obvious, however. That is, I would buy the second one. This decision could readily be rationalized because horses are herd animals and for their own psychological health should not live alone.
Originally I had no particular plans for them. Simply taking care of them and befriending them seemed sufficient. Soon, however, I decided that I wanted to teach them how to pull a cart, just for fun. Relying heavily on the expertise and wisdom of a trainer, I undertook to transform “pasture ornaments” to pint-sized draft animals.
In the elongated process of breaking and training the little horses, they have come to trust me, and I have come to adore them. They, like some other types of animals, appear to enjoy having a job to do when pulling a two-wheeled cart. A friend with blacksmithing skills plans to craft a small plow so that the little horses and I can expand our repertoire.
Jimmy and Charlie are part of my family. I look forward to caring for them each day. Spending time with them provides me a temporary escape from a world that has become too complex… and wonderful peace of mind.
